The Devil's Alternative

Frederick Forsyth A story about the attempt to cover up the execution of a KGB head and a grain harvest failure in USSR. In parts interesting in parts tedious, but well written book. Had it been 30% shorter it would have been a much better book. ★★★☆☆ Recommended

The Dogs Of War

Frederick Forsyth Extremely detailed story about the planning and background of the overthrow of an African leader. Most of the action is in the final chapters. I enjoyed it but found it a little overly detailed and wondered when the action starts, when it did it was over quickly. ★★★☆☆ Recommended

Eye Of The Storm

Jack Higgins First in a series mostly fine at times a little tedious. I found the main character very irritaing and unrelatable. ★★★☆☆ Okay

The Lonely Sea

Alistair MacLean A collection of diverse, occasionally interesting and not so interesting tales. The final self indulgent ranting of the author was tiresome. Mediocre ★★☆☆☆

The Day of the Jackal

Frederick Forsyth A really good book. I’d read the abridged version which I enjoyed. The full version is more detailed, especially in the background. Highly recommended! ★★★★★

The Odessa File

Frederick Forsyth The book both entertaining, thrilling and at the same time very sobering, due to the background of the story, the holocaust. Highly recommended ★★★★★

Andy McNab This is the fourth book in the Nick Stone universe and by far the weakest. More rambling soap opera than a special operations story. Not recommended ★☆☆☆☆
