After setting up my new network I found I couldn’t connect to my MacBook using its hostname, which is a pain for local web work in HUGO. I found that the problem lay in Apple’s security assigning fake MAC addresses to machines to limit tracking in Public Wi-Fi Hotspots.
While this maybe useful in someone cafe or other public areas it is a real pain on home, school and work networks, because the router doesn’t know where your machine is. So you can’t access the machine via its name.
The solution is simple:
Turn off Private W-Fi address in System settings > Wi-Fi > Details

A privacy warning will show to worry people needlessly so ignore it.

Should you want it on in the cafe, just reverse the steps.
