Dara 2017- Kit suite for MODO

This week I finally got around to installing Dara on my machine. Dara is the Kit suite for MODO that includes all of Adam O’Hearn’s Mechanical Color plugins in one package and at a price that is way below the individual costs added together.

I am pretty excited to work my way through the set as there are a lot of really nice add-on’s that aim to improve the basic MODO workflow. One that I am particularly interested in is the Replay kit which makes Macro creation in MODO a breeze.

I expect it will take a while to work through all the functionality in the package but when I find something particularly interesting I will post an update.

Dara includes every plugin Mechanical Color has ever made, all rolled into a single install. The 2017 release includes Bling, Cropper, Flipper, Kelvin, Metermade, NeatFreak, Passify, Render Monkey, Snap, Wheely, and Zen. Check it out.

I recently wrote about how nice it was to see Windows Live Writer again, and while it works great in most aspects it fails on a purely cosmetic one. The site themes or at least the simple one I am using renders incorrectly in fact it makes the feature a bug not a bonus.
Today I came across and article on Blogging editors for off-line work and was reminded of one I have had since it was launched Blogo is Mac only and it was nice, it wasn’t perfect but pretty good. Now looking at the latest version I am a little blown away.

One of the features I really need it the ability to choose a Featured Image, without it I am having to post a Draft and choose one online. This is a drag and defeats the whole point of off-line editing in my opinion.
Well long story short Blogo has it I don’t know for how long but it is there and now I will post this to see how it works, if at all.
Worth mentioning Blogo also keeps a nice sidebar of posts for editing something Live Writer didn’t seem to do.

Artstation Shortcut Keys

I have discovered a few shortcut navigation keys that work on the Artstation site, there may be more and if you know of any let me know and I will add them.

KEY ACTION
A Add project to collection
L Like
F Follow Artist
Left Previous Artist
Right Next Artist

Although there are not many they are quite hand for quickly going through the fine work on the site.

LDraw LEGO loader for MODO

In a recent post on Facebook Eric Soulvie released a beta version of his LDraw loader kit for MODO. I am pretty excited to try it out and you can expect some feed back and examples on here and mbt3d.

It is necessary to have the LDraw library installed for this to work, something that was immediately apparent to me, after that the installation is pretty straight forward.

If you are interested then his Article is on his site along with instructions on how to install the kit.

I spent the afternoon sorting out this site and updating the theme customisation, I didn’t care for the default font, I prefer something easier on the eye.

Also I culled a lot of images from the old gallery on here as they are getting old and I haven’t updated in a very long time. Far too many places that I post to and I can’t keep up with the needy nature of the web so they hit the bin. I still have a bit to do here but it is finally looking tidier.

It is my intention to start posting tips and tutorials again soon this time they will focus on MODO and what I have discovered in the past year or so of using it. All the old Blender ones are about somewhere but I don’t have the time or interest in that program at the moment so they are destined to languish in the dark recesses of the web for a while longer. The BlenderBits YouTube channel is still live for those interested in my old tutorials. The website is long gone and up for offer from the usual vultures that hover around old domain names, I could have kept it but all these little domain renewals add up and I am no Baron of the Interwebs.

For those looking specifically for my 3D work I would point you to the links above and the Artstation one in particular, that and Instagram are the most often updated. In fact I am posting the most to Instagram so follow me there too if you want.
